About

I am Movie Man Jackson, birth name Mark Solomon Jackson, alternate nickname Action Jackson. University of Dayton 2012 graduate, Columbus Film Critics Association member as of Aug 2016, and (current) Columbus, Ohio resident. Been running this blog as of Jan 2014, after becoming the guy at work who had an opinion on almost every new movie to release (perks of living across a theater with no cable or car at the time, I guess).

Why this blog? I am here because I enjoy watching films! And, I’ve had an interest in film criticism (hate that word) since I was a young’n watching Siskel and Ebert at 4pm on a Sunday back in Tucson, Arizona.

I try to keep up with and post as much about newer releases as possible, along with the occasional older flicks. Whatever my schedule can allow with the sometimes hot and cold dating game, working out, and the basic bores of being a grownup.

My grading system is pretty simplistic. I’ve opted to use letter grades, and films are graded relative to their genre. I look at how well a film does what it sets out to do in its genre. Way too hard to say and quantify, well, Dumb and Dumber is awesome but it is as good as Her and is Her as good as Blade Runner? Too many genres to traverse over. Key thing, this is all subjective! I’m no better than anyone else but I may be worse. Up to the reader.

I am not a master in prose, but I consider myself solid enough. Part of it is just having something worthwhile to write about. So, follow me on this ride, and be sure to comment or like if something catches your eye.

Thanks!

    1. I just love having physical copies of things, or still seeing them on the silver screen. Now I can’t claim that all of my pieces are from those avenues, but still, most are!

Hope this message finds you well.

I’m a Malaysian film director currently residing in Beijing, China. I’ve a directorial debut short film (The Story of 90 Coins) which I would like to share with you.
